HumanKIND | The Print Collective

HumanKIND - The Print Collective
For a project, we had to design a logo for our print company. The prints are on inspirational quotes and will be sold in the college where the money goes to a charity of our choice. After designing the logo, we will then be creating the prints to be sold in the college by screen printing them.

Sketches
These are my first sketch ideas. At the beginning I was thinking of including shapes in my logo but ended up steering away from this idea as I didn't want it being too complicated and busy. There were three different print collective names for us to choose from (HumanKIND, The good people prints and power of print). I ended up whittling mine down to two but ended up going with HumanKIND.

Logo And Colour Experimentation
Once I had finished my sketches, I took my ideas to the computer and started playing around with them digitally once I had found a few different typefaces. After experimenting with what I wanted my logo to look like, I then went on to playing around with colour.
After designing my logo in black and white, I then decided to start testing what it would look like with colour added to it. With the print company being about sustainability and being eco friendly, I decided to choose colours that matched nature such as green, brown and pink. With the use of the colour green in my logo, it links to growth which is what we humans are doing everyday. With including pink in my logo, this links to people and the colour of the heart as pink is just a lighter shade of red. With using brown, this links to safety, resilience, security and dependability which links to humanity being a collective. My favourite was the logo that included the darker pink heart although it unfortunately reminded me of some bacon packaging I had seen in some shops so I decided to not use it in the end because of this. However, after experimenting with colour, I feel that the logo looks it’s strongest and most professional in black as I feel it looks more minimal, clean and slick. I felt that with including colour, it looked more messy and unprofessional.

Sub Logo And Pattern
My sub logo can be used for things such as banners, social media profiles and business cards. My sub mark and pattern can also be used for website favicon's and business appliances.
